The backbone of the Deer Creek watershed is agriculture. The farmers and ranchers in the area are the reason for the open space and abundant natural resources that makes this area so valuable. These are family operations, not corporate agriculture, and the folks that run them are far more inclined to spend time with their cows than with their computers. And while their management practices lend themselves well to direct marketed, grass fed beef, most do not have the time to pursue such a concept. This is where DCWC comes in. This program is designed to provide local producers with a marketing and delivery service. DCWC buys high quality, grass fed and finished animals and facilitates the marketing, processing and delivery. Producers are insulated from the fluctuations of the commodity beef market, which can largely be dictated by large packing companies and the price of commodity grains such as corn. Customers have access to local, grass fed beef at reasonable prices.
Yes, there is a markup. It goes to make sure someone takes orders, organized the processing, and gets the beef delivered.
You'll find the price, even with the markup, is still very competative. This is possible for a number of reasons. The first is that everything is very local. Its not far from the farm to the abbatoir to your table. Second is DCWC is a non-profit organization. It is our mission to help support sustainable agriculture and strengthen our community with projects like these. So while there is a markup, its just enough to make sure we can keep providing this service and others like it. If you have any questions about our pricing or where the money goes, feel free to ask us, or click here for a brief look at out other projects.
